Day In the Life

The whole process of devising day in the life was really interesting and definitely helped give me insight into the industry, though the whole point was to educate the first year HND group it taught me a lot of what it is like as well. It was a real learning curve for me as I had to research as to what my character as the agent would do in her job role and her responsibilities. Also researching an agency to work for and how it fits into the piece and convey a real perspective of what the industry is really like.

It was quite a challenge trying to devise this piece as I took on a directors role during the rehearsal process because I am very hands on and practical and felt that I needed to be the person to look at the play from a different point of view and think about the small things that no one usually thinks of or waits to correct at the last minute, e.g. back to the audience, directing the voice to the audience. As I think some people have got the ideas but don't know how to execute them and put them into practise. I also came up with the idea to bring the props on stage with us as the scene takes place and get them off stage at the same time, really making sure the transitions were smooth and that they added something new to the piece.

When we performed the piece one of the first comments from feedback was the transitions were really smooth and that they liked how we came up with different ideas as how to bring the props on and off stage, which was one of the main things I tried to put forward to the group was so important. I don't think some of the group realised how effective it can be when done properly and that it has to be perfected and rehearsed with if you are not used to that style of performing for it to work in a performance.

I really enjoy performing this piece as not only is it a really good show but it is insightful and believable that the scenarios which happen in the play do and have happened in real life. We didn't over play it and make it really cheesy where everyone gets their perfect job role and earns lots of money, we wanted it to be real and show how harsh it is being in this industry. I am really proud that this play has all come from us, our ideas and our creativity and input and the research on top fits in with the piece so well.
